Description Pharmacy technician performs tasks and responsibilities
related to preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications
under the supervision of a pharmacist. Technicians may work in
either acute care pharmacy and/or retail/specialty pharmacy
settings. -
- Prepare, dispense, and distribute medications. -
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients,
and other pharmacy employees.
- Provide on-the-job training to new personnel and assists in
evaluating the progress of new employee. -
- Conduct competency assessments in aseptic technique and dosage
calculations. -
- Compounds or reconstitutes special sterile and nonsterile
dosage forms under the direction of a pharmacist. -
- Complete assigned quality assurance inspections, medication
distribution assignments, and maintain drug inventory areas. -
- Prepare and label sterile dosage forms such as IV solutions and
other injectable medications, and irrigation solutions. Retail or
Specialty Pharmacy -
- Receive prescriptions, complete data entry of prescription
orders in the pharmacy dispensing software and adjudicate
third-party insurance claims. -
- Prepare and label prescriptions consistent with state and
federal labeling guidelines. -
- Conduct point-of-sale transactions that require proper cash
handling, offer patient counseling, and comply with all out-window
procedures for patient safety. -
- Answer telephones and handle calls that do not require the
personal attention of a pharmacist, including taking verbal
prescription orders from doctor's offices or clinics and completing
incoming and outgoing prescription transfers. -
- Deliver quality customer service in all interactions with
patients. -
- May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in
department documents. - Required Qualifications - High school
diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be
acquired. - Must apply prior to hire for Pharmacy Technician or
Pharmacy Intern licensure by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy. -
Preferred Qualifications -
- Completion of one (1) year of college. -
- Additional license/certification requirements as determined by
the hiring department. - Physical Demands - The physical demands
