                  • Health, Life, Long-Term Disability, Accidental DeathJob DescriptionThe Transport Respiratory Therapist performs highly technical respiratory therapy procedures of both a routine and emergent nature as a member of the Respiratory Care Department and Children's Hospital Critical Care Transport Team. Provides specialized direct patient care to high-risk and critically ill patients. ---- -
                    • Provides evaluation, stabilization, coordination, and delivery of medical care to patients during transport. -
                    • Work independently to administer services via approved protocols and guidelines. -
                    • Provide advanced airway management and mechanical ventilation. -
                    • Perform endotracheal intubation, needle decompression, umbilical catheter placement, IO Catheter placement & point of care testing. - -
                    • Assist nursing with procedures. Assures medical equipment is accounted for, properly functioning, and securely stowed. -
                    • Familiar with the use of all equipment and supplies, including medications. -
                    • Assures additional medical equipment/supplies are available for the specific needs of the patient's condition and needs, based on available patient reports and distance of transport. - -
                    • Communicates condition, acuity, and any unusual issues with the transport team and medical control. -
                    • Communicates with the patient/family condition of the patient, pertinent disease information & expectations during transport. -
                    • Assist with workflow by maintaining collaborative communication with the referral facility team. - -
                    • Attend all required safety training programs, education, and meetings. -
                    • Participate in outreach visits and education at referring facilities. -
                    • Provide respiratory therapy in-patient activities as needed including the following: collection and analysis of blood gas samples; oxygen therapy and specialty medical gas administration; invasive and non-invasive ventilation; inhaled medication administration; airway clearance techniques; airway maintenance; attending routine and high-risk deliveries. - -
                    • Act as a member of the Code Blue, Rapid Response Team, and Trauma Response Team. -
                    • Provide patient documentation through the electronic medical record. -
                    • Follow infection control and safety standards. - -
                    • Educate and advise patients' families on respiratory therapy procedures. - -
                    • Provide education to students and other healthcare providers. - -
                    • Serves as preceptor for new employees and respiratory care students. -
                    • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.--- ---- -Required Qualifications--- -
                      • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) licensure by the Missouri Respiratory Care board.
                      • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
                      • One (1) year of pediatric and/or neonatal critical care experience.
                      • Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Neonatal Pediatric Transport (NPT) certification by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) within eighteen (18) months as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. - ---- -

The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a healthcare facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
