Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct
patient care, emergency response, injury and illness management,
medical surveillance, wellness initiatives, episodic convenience
care and assisting with other occupational and environmental health
services, as needed, while maintaining a professional and
patient-centered approach in an occupational setting. Schedule:
part-time - 24 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Provides rapid first aid and medical care for employees, as
needed, and for emergencies (within the RN scope of practice) when
the clinic is open.
- Coordinates care with WorkCare's Incident Intervention injury
management program and utilizes physician escalation services, as
needed.
- Provides episodic care for minor medical issues, medical
consultations, and recommendations according to treatment care
guidelines set forth and in collaboration with the WorkCare
Consulting Medical Director (CMD) and policies/procedures.
- Provides evidence-based practice and health promotion.
- Support injury prevention through education and ergonomic
evaluations.
- Assists with new-hire exams, return-to-work assessments,
fitness for duty exams and transitional work plans prior to the
employee returning to work, as needed and in line with the scope of
practice and as supported by the WorkCare CMD.
- Modifies interventions to progress the employee, as directed by
the CMD, and to ensure employee safety and comfort.
- Maintains frequent communication with the WorkCare CMD and
WorkCare Supervisor regarding all clinic issues and client
requests.
- Supports Employee Assistance Program (EAP) coordination,
referral, and case management, as necessary.
- Helps employees prevent injuries and manage pain.
- Performs ergonomic assessments, or Bio-Ergonomic Assessments
and/or other employee intervention programs as implemented.
- Supports health fairs and other wellness initiatives such as
vaccination clinics, encouraging healthy lifestyles by educating
employees on nutrition, fitness, sleep hygiene and stress
management.
- Obtains data (such as biometrics) related to wellness
interventions and provides wellness checks, obesity weigh-ins,
blood pressure checks, etc.
- Facilitates the use of available company resources such as
fitness centers and health risk appraisals.
- Reports to the client and WorkCare management
periodically.
- Supports Medical Surveillance exams such as audiograms, vision
tests, pulmonary function, respirator fit testing and DOT testing
requirements, as needed, and feasible with available or procured
equipment, in line with the scope of practice and as supported by
the WorkCare CMD.
- Provides post-accident, pre-employment, for-cause, and random
drug testing in line with the scope of practice and as supported by
the WorkCare CMD or Medical Review Officer (if services are desired
to be performed onsite).
- Performs health care administration work such as developing
protocols and policies in tandem with the WorkCare CMD.
- Collaborates with the WorkCare CMD to support clinical issues
and client requests.
- Contributes insight to incident reports and tracking of injury
and clinic utilization data.
- Actively participates in emergency response team activities,
drills, and training.
- Participates in safety meetings as requested.
- Manages travel medicine programs, as appropriate for the
population.
- Maintains data, OSHA 300 forms and the clinic encounter data
entry process supported by clinic software or electronic records
management systems.
- Orders and maintain supplies to ensure that the clinic is
appropriately stocked.
- Participates in the general flow of clinic operations
(answering phones, checking mail, maintaining medical records,
filing, copying charts, traffic control) as needed and in
collaboration with current staff.
- Assists with noise sampling, dust sampling, and fire
extinguishers.
- Provides common pre-packaged over the counter (OTC) medicine to
employees for episodic urgent care.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience
- Nursing Licensure by the state of practice, in good
standing.
- 3-5 years occupational health experience preferred.
- CPR and AED-certified
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing, preferred
- If needed, NIOSH, CAOHC, DOT Drug, and Alcohol testing
- Skills and Competencies
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication
skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability of maintaining privacy
and confidentiality.

making.
- Must have the ability to gather data, compile information and
prepare reports.

- Ability to work independently as well as assisting other team
members when needed.
- Requires regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Computer Skills
- Must be competent in the Windows operating system environment,
Adobe Professional, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel
and PowerPoint) and learn other software as needed.
- EMR software applications
- Physical Demands
- Requires sitting for long periods of time, working at a
desk.
- Some bending and stretching could be required.
- Working under stress and use of computer/phone required.
- Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.
- Occasionally may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel
and/or crouch.
- May occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- Work Environment
- Mainly indoor, office environment conditions.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
- Air quality is good, and temperature is controlled.
