General Summary The Manager of pastoral care is responsible for managing the pastoral care department. S/he oversees and ensures the provision of pastoral and spiritual care to patients, their families, and healthcare staff. S/he oversees and ensures provision of education and training, as appropriate, for the institution. S/he communicates and provides liaison with the religious community. S/he participates in the institution#s management structure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities# Ensures the delivery of a complete program of pastoral/ spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and healthcare staff of all faith traditions. Actively participates in the delivery of spiritual care Ensures that all requests for spiritual care are responded to in a timely manner Ensures that appropriate worship opportunities are provided Ensures that ritual and sacramental needs are met Supervises and facilitates the work of those delivering spiritual care, including employees of the institution and volunteers serving as chaplains Provides orientation and training according to institutional standards Conducts yearly performance reviews, as appropriate. Monitors days away and ensures adequate staffing. Participates, as appropriate, in hiring and disciplinary processes Coordinates clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the religious community Provides orientation to policies and procedures that affect their visiting. Provides resources, including patient lists, according to the institutional policy. Provides liaison with institutional personnel Coordinates with volunteer services department for processing and basic orientation of volunteer chaplains Supports an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral/ spiritual care Provides liaison to other departments, such as social work, volunteers, etc Provides orientation to pastoral/ spiritual care to other departments as invited Serves on institutional committees, such as Bioethics and institutional review board, as appointed Oversees the use and maintenance of the pastoral care offices and chapel Assists in development and review of a financial budget for the department to fund operations and maximize efficiency Provides proper office supplies, ritual items and religious literature Develops and maintains proper administration procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy Develops and maintains procedures to keep records of pastoral activity to communicate with other members of the department and report to administration Develops and administers the department#s plan for continuous quality improvement Contributes to the wider community through publication, teaching and research Authors and co-authors material relevant to spiritual care and pastoral education Participates in teaching on a regular or periodic basis as invited Participates in research relevant to the field of pastoral/ spiritual care Participates in programs and administrative activities of the institution Plans and participates in monthly staff meetings Plans and participates in regular professional development activities and supervision Participates in periodic planning meetings for departments directors Job Qualifications # Education Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry. Minimum of Associates degree business, leadership or healthcare related field required. Work Experience Minimum of one year pastoral service experience. Minimum of one year supervisory experience Healthcare pastoral service experience preferred. Certification/License Mental/Physical Requirements Considerable mental concentration required. Frequent heavy lifting and turning activities. Nearly constant walking is required; carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting and reaching.# Working Conditions Direct contact with patients/ residents with communicable disease using acceptable universal precautions. Substantial time spent with patients, their loved ones, staff and students, which requires a high school degree of spiritual sensitivity, emotional energy, and mental alertness. Must have mobility through the healthcare institution#s facilities, which are handicapped accessible. Must have the ability to handle stress associated with ministering to patients and their loved ones who experienced pain, suffering, death, and grief.

Job Qualifications
