  • Responsible for managing the tax department; including leading, mentoring, reviewing of department personnel and running an efficient department
  • Oversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax filings with all state and local jurisdictions
  • Oversee and review monthly, quarterly, and annual excise tax filings with federal and all state jurisdictions
  • Conduct self-audits on a periodic basis to ensure compliance with sales and use tax laws and federal/state motor fuel laws
  • Oversee tax/exemption software setup, additions, changes, and inner workings of each system
  • Responsible for sales/use tax audits and/or federal/state excise tax audits. Including research to remove audit items, addressing audit findings by addressing changes needed in current process, systems or education of employees
  • Responsible for keeping up with sales, use and excise tax rate changes, law changes, sales and/or federal exemption changes; then communication to company personnel
  • Responsible for implementing tax projects and system integrations
  • Research and provide guidance on the impact of entering new states
  • Assist with the exemption certificate document collection, retention and management process.
  • Establish individual and team goals for the department while ensuring goals are attainable and trackable
  • Monitors employee productivity in accordance to established policy
  • Recommends the employment, discipline, wage adjustments, and termination of personnel and conducts performance evaluations of employees
  • Maintain good working relationship with all employees
  • Know and adhere to company policies and procedure
  • Ensure employees are following posted work schedule and adhering to proper clocking procedures to accurately reflect hours worked
  • Maintain timely and professional communication with management, employees, vendors and customers. Keep supervisor informed of any problems and/or any issues that need attention
  • Plan and direct the work of all personnel that are within this managers area of responsibility
  • Resolve conflict in a timely manner
  • Hire, motivate, and organize employees and their work so that everyone has clear direction and knows what is expected of them and take disciplinary action when necessary
  • Other duties as assignedJob Requirements
    • Bachelors degree in Accounting or financial related field
    • Experience working with sales, use and/or excise tax
    • At least two years experience in managing individuals
    • At least five years experience in accounting
    • Demonstrates a broad business and accounting knowledge; describes methods in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Ability to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery including Microsoft Office products
    • Capability to learn new concepts and use technical materials
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team
    • Ability to provide accurate and thorough work with attention to detail
    • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to train others, present to small or large groups
    • Excellent writing skills, including ability to convey material concisely, using proper grammar
    • Ability to motivate employees under direct supervision, evaluate performance and assist in personal and professional development
    • Travel expected to company sites, trainings, and meetings as needed
    • Ability to meet company requirements including successful pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States of America
    • Ability to exchange accurate information verbally and in written form with the customers of MFA Oil in EnglishPreferred Skills
      • MBA or CPA
      • Experience with multi-state sales and use tax work in a public accounting firm or equivalent medium/large corporate tax department
      • Experience with Vertex, Avalara and/or Oracle JDE/EnterpriseOne systems
      • Knowledge of propane and bulk fuel operations, products, and processes
      • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and work at a fast pace
      • Ability to work independently, set priorities and goals, and develop plans for achieving them
      • Excellent customer service skills
      • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, growing organization and rapidly changing environment
